Stoffer Aiming to Break Up V-Twin Denver Dominance - 7/7/2009

After advancing one spot at the last race, Karen Stoffer looks to continue her ascent to the top of the Full Throttle point series at this weekend's Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals from Denver, Colo.

"I feel great about moving up a spot," said Stoffer, who is currently No. 9 in the series. "I feel even better about having 12 green lights in a row. I feel like we can have a good West Coast run."

Winning in oxygen-starved Denver on a four-cylinder Suzuki will be no easy task. In recent history the event has been dominated by V-Twin motorcycles. The Harley-Davidson and Buell entries have bigger motors and are less affected by the lack of air.

"It will be a challenge for sure. But hey, that's racing," Stoffer said. "I'm excited to see what we can do."

The GEICO Powersports team will contend with the red-hot Screamin Eagle V-Rod team, which sent both of its riders, Andrew Hines and Ed Krawiec, to the final at the tour's last stop in Norwalk, Ohio.

Stoffer says crew chief Gary Stoffer is up for the challenge and has ways of maximizing her machine's performance in the high altitude.

"We have five different motors and they each have different personalities," Stoffer said. "Some are more suited for the high altitude. Also Gary will be tuning the clutch to get us off the line harder and quicker than usual. We are going to have to leave hard to get the bike to make up for the loss in performance."

Stoffer's first qualifying session is slated for Friday July 10th at 4:45 pm.

Stoffer went on to extend special thanks to all of her sponsors and supporters.
