COMMERCE, Ga. (May 2) – Karen Stoffer and the GEICO Suzuki team head to Atlanta Dragway for this weekend's Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals with an extra spring in their step coming off a season-best semifinal finish last week in Houston.

"I feel confident going back there, but not so much because we've done well in Atlanta, but the reasons why we've done well there," she said. "(Crew chief/husband) Gary (Stoffer) has figured out the tune-up really well, and I've been able to ride really well.

"That's more the reason why you have a little more kick in your step, rather than just coming to the track. It's the fact that you know we have all worked together, have a good team and are putting a good package together for the track."

Stoffer went three rounds at the Spring Nationals last week, and is battling it out with Matt Smith for fourth place in the season standings.

"We'll see what plays out there. Every weekend seems to be a little different with the Pro Stock bike class." Stoffer said. "You never know who's who in Whoville. You've got all these weight rules and no R&D on some of the Suzukis and huge R&D on some of the Buells.

"It's always a mish-mash, and you never know what you're going to come up against. Hopefully, in Atlanta, we'll be able to stick to our tune-up and be consistent and make rounds."

She is also emboldened by the fact the weather in Georgia this weekend is expected to be fairly similar what it was in Texas a week ago.

"Gary's done well in the heat and we've also done well in Atlanta," Stoffer said. "We've won that race in the past, so Gary knows how to tune to Atlanta. As long as he gets the weather he wants to tune to, I'm happy."

Qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals gets under way at 3:30 p.m. EDT at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga. Two more rounds of qualifying begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with eliminations starting at 11 a.m. Sunday. ESPN2 will broadcast the qualifying show at 7 p.m. EDT Saturday. The eliminations show will air at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Stoffer went on to extend special thanks to all of the 2012 sponsors and supporters.
