CHARLOTTE (Sept. 15) - GEICO Suzuki rider Karen Stoffer is ready to mix it up with Pro Stock Motorcycle's best in Sunday's O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway.
Stoffer, who qualified No. 8 with a best pass of 6.963 seconds at 192.11 mph, hopes to go four rounds Sunday, and she'll do what it takes to accomplish that goal.
"Sunday's about race day," Stoffer said. "We're going to do what we do, try and be consistent and make sure we get down the track, fast and consistent, just like we did all four passes this weekend.
"Everybody knows that on race day, crazy and wild things happen. Maybe a crazy, wild thing will happen, and we'll go a lot of rounds. If it doesn't happen because of crazy and wild, then it's because of consistency. We're going to shoot for that."
Stoffer continues to be consistent in qualifying, as all four of her passes were within .052 seconds, despite drastically different weather conditions. In addition to her top lap in the second qualifying session, she went 6.971 at 193.15 mph in Q2, 6.985 at 189.87 mph in Q3 and 7.015 at 188.94 mph in Q4.
"The GEICO black-and-yellow Suzuki is definitely doing what she does," Stoffer said. "That's the power she's got, and she's going down the race track. We're definitely putting in the best tune-up we can and we're riding well. She's running very good."
Stoffer faces No. 9 qualifier Shawn Gann in the first round of eliminations Sunday. Gann ran the same ET as Stoffer, but his speed was slightly slower, 191.43 mph.
Stoffer is also enjoying the atmosphere of zMax Dragway, which bills itself as the "Bellagio of Drag Racing." But it's also been a favorite place for kids this weekend.
"It's really been a fun weekend," Stoffer said. "The fans have been phenomenal here. In my partnership package, my fan base is 22 percent under 12 years old. This weekend, though, has certainly shot that percentage out of that roof. I've had so many kids here, and they're so awesome and so appreciative.
"Props to all the Charlotte fans who have come out to watch the races because they've really been inspiring and a lot of fun."
Stoffer went on to extend special thanks to all
of the 2012 sponsors and supporters.
